We’re using the story of Marcus Garvey to teach the children that they were born with a purpose—on purpose. Garvey isn’t just a national hero who helped us gain independence. He’s also a source of inspiration. There’s a side of Garvey that’s rarely taught: Garvey the thinker. Garvey the guide—who shows us, as Black people, how to survive, how to rise, and how to lead with purpose. Because Garvey isn’t just history. He’s a living legacy. A reminder that even if you fall, you can rise. And even if you’ve been silenced, your voice still matters. That’s what I’ve been sharing on TikTok— and that’s what we’re bringing into the classroom today. Every child has a calling. A purpose only they can hear. Only they can answer. Only they can fulfill. And this journey begins with one word: Yes. Yes to your purpose. Yes to your power. Yes to the road ahead.
