Happy Birthday, Frantz Fanon (2008)

"There is no white world, there is no white ethic, any more than there is a white intelligence. There are in every part of the world men who search. I am not a prisoner of history. I should not seek there for the meaning of my destiny.I should constantly remind myself that the real leap consists in introduction invention into existence. In the world through which I travel, I am endlessly creating myself."

~Black Skin, White Masks~ Frantz Fanon

God knows when this comparison between white and blacks will come to an end.

My hero Bob Marley once sang,

"until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior...me say War."

It will end when we decide to end the war on ourselves.

Peace,
Geoffrey

On 30 May 2004, my brother, Richard Hitchins, was murdered in Jamaica for no apparent reason. My last book of poetry, THE TRUE BLUE OF ISLANDS, dedicated to him, inspired by this horror, is about the blues of violence throughout our history in Jamaica. Like so many other murders, it remains unsolved. As for the ongoing war between black and white, Richard was an avid proponent of "the race of tan". The connection? He was born on Fanon's birthday, as is my only grandchild. She is the hybrid of hybrids, she has so many 'races' in her little body. When the world has browned, as is inevitable, and the races dissolve, the war will have ended.

BTW, what's that little disability sign beside the 'Word verification' slot? I hope it's not prophetic! One love, Geoff.

The last line is one of my favorite quotes.

Mine too. It is essentially human to create oneself.
